The People of Vietnam

Trapaising through Vietnam and Laos a few weeks ago - this was my big trip of the year - I decided to step up my photography game. That is, to take photos of people and try to capture the spirit of many of the local cultures that I encountered. Sure, I ended up with plenty of scenic shots, but it was much more rewarding to do the same with individuals.

Sunday Snapshot: Colorful Clouds at Chinese Garden

I finally ventured out to Chinese Garden last week to stroll around the grounds. Just when I was leaving, the sunset lit up the clouds with stunning shades of orange and blue. It certainly was one of the best evening skies that I've seen so far.

Cafe Hopping: Kith Cafe

A recent lazy Sunday brought me back to Kith Cafe at Park Mall, just across the way from Dhoby Ghaut MRT station. This was one of the first places that I visited for brunch back in August, so it was nice to go back and see how it compared with the many other places I've had the chance to sample over this year.

Cafe Hopping: W39 Bistro and Bakery

After a long week of work (and dogsitting), I popped over to W39 in West Coast for some dinner and dessert. My Singapore coffee colleagues have dropped this name more than once, but since it is tucked away in an obscure neighborhood out west, this was the first opportunity I had to drop by. But I was quite glad that I did, as the food, dessert, and vibe of W39 made it a winner.

Sunday Snapshot: Rainy Corner

Strolling along Hanoi, Vietnam, I came across this artsy piece of graffiti adorning the outside of restaurant. It's rainy, but at least the clouds are smiling.

(late) Sunday Snapshot: Sunset in Shanghai

So I was finally late with a Sunday Snapshot this year, but it wasn't totally my fault, thanks to the great firewall of China. Nonetheless, I was treated to this amazing view in Shanghai overlooking the famous Bund from the 100th floor, with the sun dipping down through the haze in the background.

Sunday Snapshot: Monks in the morning

This was the scene at 5:30AM in Luang Prabang, Laos. Each morning, all of the Buddhist monks in town walk through the streets, where villagers fill their receptacles with sticky rice and other food items. Because the monks are not allowed to work, this is the only way that they receive food to eat every day. It was really inspiring to see the selflessness of the entire town played out on a daily basis.

Also, apologies for the lack of posts recently, I've been hopping around the region.
